Humidor Connect
Cigar Discovery, Lounges & Digital Humidor
My roleFounder and lead developer — product definition, the recommendation engine, the persistence layer, and the full interface.
The Problem
In-store guidance is inconsistent, so customers buy on the label and retailers lose the sell-through. Humidor Connect scores cigars against a stated palate and swipe history, then explains every match in plain language — and the same ranking can be run against one lounge's inventory so the answer is something a customer can actually walk out with.
The Solution
A mobile-first discovery platform that connects a smoker's taste to the selection actually around them. Swipe through blends, get recommendations filtered to what a specific lounge carries, track a digital humidor, and check in to see what everyone else is on.
Features
- Deterministic scoring engine — no model, no inference — weighing stated preferences, swipe history, and flavor notes shared with past likes
- Every recommendation carries a “Why this matches” explanation and a drink pairing
- Run the same ranking against a single lounge's inventory, so results are things in stock
- Swipe discovery that learns from every like and pass
- Digital humidor and a live taste profile built from swipe behavior
- 21 lounges across Dallas–Fort Worth, Atlanta, Houston, and Indianapolis, with hours, amenities, events, and priced inventory
- Lounge check-ins with an activity feed
- Age gate that remembers a pass per device but deliberately never stores a refusal, so a mistyped year cannot lock someone out
- Schema-stamped localStorage wrapper that survives private browsing, exhausted quota, and blocked site data without white-screening
- Collections stored as ids and rehydrated from the catalog, so a saved humidor never carries stale blend data
